Rationale for GGPC
We are currently facing the biggest challenge of humanity, and that is climate change (World Economic Forum, 2020). The Climate Change Vulnerability Index (CCVI) by Maplecroft, global risk and strategic consulting firm based in the United Kingdom, stated that the Philippines is ranked 16 out of 170 countries as extremely vulnerable to climate change. The Philippines ranked highest in the world in terms of vulnerability to tropical cyclone occurrence. An existing policy, known as the “National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008” (R.A. 9512) aims to integrate environmental education in its school curricula at all levels, yet we do not see this. Since we can’t wait for the government or those in power to take action on the climate crisis, we need to take measures into our own hands and teach the youth about making an impact within their schools and communities.
Mission & Vision Statement
Mission: To create a network of youth-environmentalists with the purpose of being an avenue for environmental education, normalizing pro-environmental behavior, and advocating for mass climate action.
Vision: Shaping a youth that is more engaged in creating and sustaining climate action. A youth that is a catalyst for change.
